It seems that the gap is still widening between the head of the Wagner Military Group, the most important ally of the Russian President, Yevgeny Prigozhin, and some officials in the country.
After the disputes increased recently following Prigozhin’s repeated criticism of the Russian Defense Ministry and his endeavor to show the efficiency of his forces compared to the Russian army, not to mention the ammunition crisis, the strong man detonated a surprise of a heavy caliber.
Plan to kill him!
The Wagner commander claimed that there were plans to liquidate him and his group in Ukraine, either before or after the end of the war, according to a report published by the American Institute for the Study of War.
The institute also added that its information is based on an alleged discussion between President Vladimir Putin and Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev regarding the future of the Wagner Group.
In this context, the Wagner commander claimed that Patrushev warned President Putin of the dangers of the Wagner Group forming a larger force that would enable it to occupy lands on the borders of Ukraine and perhaps even advance inside Russia, he said.
His words came in response to a journalist’s question published by Prigozhin’s media service on Thursday.
Conspiracy without confirmation. Vague signs
Prigozhin revealed that the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, had suggested to Putin to end and destroy Wagner, for fear of its leader’s attempt to unify and arm the fighters, and then send them to Russia’s territory to seize power in the regions bordering Ukraine with the possibility of advancing inside.
And he concluded that orders had already been issued by Patrushev to monitor the fighters of the most important group and control its movements, amid approval from Putin.
However, despite this, the Institute for the Study of War was unable to confirm or deny these statements, according to the newspaper.kyivindependent“.
Therefore, the Center considered that the lack of external confirmation on this matter indicates that Prigozhin fabricated an alleged plot to enhance his media image and the role of his forces.
Shadow man appeared
It is noteworthy that Prigozhin, an ally of President Vladimir Putin, has recently been suffering from problems with the Russian Defense Ministry, as he claimed to have achieved victories on the battlefield before the Russian army and accused the ministry of not supplying him with the required ammunition.
Sanctioned by Washington and Brussels, this man has been working in the shadows for years, but his name has surfaced since the start of the offensive in Ukraine last year.
Then he raised a state of controversy after his repeated criticism of the Russian defense, in light of his continuous efforts to show that his forces are more efficient than the Russian army.
