The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan confirmed Abdel Fattah Al-BurhanOn Sunday, the military establishment will not back down from its goal of reaching a civilian government, but without “extortion.”

“We are determined to move forward and we will not back down from a civilian government, but this is not subject to blackmail or bargaining,” Sudanese television quoted Al-Burhan as saying.

“We are close to reaching a path that leads to the military institution’s exit from the political process and leaving room for civilian forces to meet the desire of the Sudanese people,” he added.

The head of the Sovereignty Council indicated that the civilian forces should “serve” the Sudanese people.

In addition, the spokesman for the political process in Sudan said that the signing of the final political agreement will be on April 1.

It is noteworthy that, on December 5, 2022, the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, witnessed the signing of the “framework agreement” between the military component of the country’s ruling Sovereignty Council, the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change, the Central Council and allied groups, to end the political crisis in Sudan and return it to civilian rule, in the presence of major international and regional parties that contributed to reaching this agreement.
